Where We Train

In addition to training on roads and trails near our home, we have a few favorite trails.

Frisco Highline Trail
The Frisco Trail is 35 miles long, and runs from Springfield, MO to Bolivar, MO. We enjoy starting at the Walnut Grove trailhead as there is less traffic, and this portion of the trail isn't paved. The trail is jointly administered by Ozark Greenways and the Springfield-Greene County Park Board.

Lakeview Trail
The Lakeview Trail is located at beautiful Stockton State Park and is a little over 8 miles long. This is a narrower trail that has a few tricky spots, but offers great opportunities for working with the dogs. Plus, the scenic view of the lake doesn't hurt.  There are several other smaller trails within the park as well, with plans for another larger trail to be built that will connect to the Lakeview, for an extensive trail system.  This trail is narrow, and you may come across mountain bikers or runners on the trail as well.

Coleman Conservation Area
This area is near our home and perfect for canicross training.

Ruby Jack Trail
Like the Frisco, the Ruby Jack Trail is a "rails-to-trails" trail. It is 16 miles long and runs through the towns of Carl Junction and Oronogo, MO. It extends all the way to the Kansas State Line through beautiful farmland.

Katy Trail
The Katy Trail is the nation's longest "rails-to-trails" project, spanning approximately 238 miles. The trail runs from Machens to Clinton, and we enjoy camping in Klondike Park (St. Charles County) and using the section of the trail in that area.  The trail occupies a segment of rail corridor that once carried trains of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (aka the Katy).
